The History of the Jimmy Fund Classic
In 1991, a joint fundraising venture was launched by Little League
 Baseball of Massachusetts,
the Jimmy Fund, and the Boston Red Sox to assist in the fight against cancer. They agreed upon a tournament
sanctioned by Little League Baseball headquarters in Williamsport, PA, using our 8, 9 and 10-year-old players.
In 2008, the Distric I formed two divisions for our tournament. The major division consists of thw 10-year-olds, and a minor division consisting of 8- and 9-year-olds, to ensure more playing time for the kinds and more fun.
In Berkshire County, the local Jimmy Fund Council is under the direction of Paul Dowd and District 1 Little League
representative Don Gleason. They have jointly nurtured our tournament to a point in which it has raised over $10,000 yearly.
This achievement is something that all of Berkshire County should be proud of, as hundreds of 8, 9 and 10-year-olds around
the county seek pledges, a true tribute to our theme of “Kids Helping Kids.”
